About our church
Inclusive Church was formed in the early 1980s when a group of Christians living on the Horringer Court Estate in Bury St Edmunds wanted to meet together on the estate. Until recently we were known as Horringer Court Community Church (HC3) which included the much-loved Friday night youth club called JIF.
In 1982 we started meeting Horringer Court Middle School and had been there until the school closed in the summer of 2023. In September of that year, we moved into the Day Centre of Care UK’s residential home, Glastonbury Court, across the road from the school. We took over the lease of the former Glad Abbott pub in August 2025, and it's now the home for Inclusive Church and the IC Centre; a venue for the community, and home to our Saturday morning cafe as well as our Sunday morning worship, and mid-week fellowship.
In April 2022 we renamed as Inclusive Church. We know not everyone feels Church is a welcoming place for them, even though in reality that may rarely be the case. Still, we wanted to positively and boldly make it clear that Inclusive Church welcomes, indeed God, welcomes everyone. But that welcome includes participation and growth in all aspects of church life and ministry.
Our new home
We are now based at 26 Glastonbury Road, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP33 2EX, the former Glad Abbot Pub, and the building has been renamed the IC Centre.
Introducing our Leadership Team
Stephen Jarrold, Pastor
“Stephen Jarrold had a go!”
I don’t know if that would be the best epitaph but it’s how I feel looking back at life. I’ve sung twice in the Royal Albert Hall, spent 2 ½ years in a Mission (mostly South America), started a football club, started a choir and been a Director at Denny Bros Ltd for 12 years (I started there in 1983). I have 3 amazing children. I was a church Elder for 10 years. I was asked to become Pastor of Horringer Court Community Church (as we were known then) in September 2016.
But I’ve also been divorced after 25 years of marriage and I’ve been bankrupt. My list of mistakes is considerable.
But I have been restored. My wonderful wife and her 2 children (mine now too as well!) are part of an incredible story: God takes broken things, broken lives and puts them back together.
I’m proud to be part of Inclusive Church – a church that welcomes everyone and believes God has a unique purpose for every life, whatever your journey has been. Whatever it continues to be Stephen Jarrold is still having a go – because God never gives up on us.
Karen Krabbendam, Elder
I have been married twice, sadly my first marriage didn’t last, but I have been happily married to Peter for 33 years. I am blessed with two step-children, that I love dearly and 6 grandchildren who are our world. Peter and myself live at Thurston and share our home with my sister. My hobbies include lots of crafts, reading and researching for my sermons and house groups and helping people.
I retired a year ago from running a home for adults with a learning disability. Several of the residents have attended HC3/ Inclusive Church for years and although I never lost my faith, taking them on a Sunday morning, caused my passion for God to be rekindled like never before.
HC3/Inclusive Church blessed me in 2020 when I became the first female elder. I love to share the good news of the risen Christ, with anyone who will listen though any media available whenever I can.
